communal garden
This project combines communal gardens with social eating, taking place on a rooftop in Rotterdam. It makes use of traditional garden structures (garden plots, greenhouses and trellises) with a little twist. Garden plots are full of curves and divided by color; greenhouses serve also as communal kitchens; and trellises form natural walls that provide privacy at sitting areas.

PROCESS
The main reference for this project was the work of artist and landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. The use of curves, the strong attention to the context and the social motivation behind the garden were inspiring in his work and also applied here.

COLOURS

I proceeded researching about edible communal gardens. This includes the production of some vegetables and flowers, which benefit from being planted together in the same plot. The zones were then defined by color: different red plants together, yellow and green. Within the curves, water storage and sitting areas were also included.
